Pop-Up Children's Museum to Bring Kingston Closer to a Permanent, Year-Round Home
My Green Museum hosted a two-weekend pop-up exhibit, inviting families to help shape the city's first children's museum
KINGSTON, N.Y. — August 31, 2026 — My Green Museum, a nonprofit working to establish Kingston's first children's museum, hosted a two-weekend pop-up exhibit in August, giving families a hands-on preview of the nature-based, all-ages learning space the organization hopes to build as a permanent fixture in the city.
Designed to spark curiosity in kids and families, the pop-up featured interactive exhibits including a local market and kitchen, a recycled forest, and a trash lab, encouraging learning through exploration and imaginative play. Families with children ages 3 to 9 were invited to help shape what a future children's museum in Kingston could look like by testing ideas through play.
“By hosting this pop-up, we’re hoping to showcase what a permanent children’s museum in Kingston could look like. We’re also taking note of what activities the kids are drawn to and we’re gathering feedback from their grown-ups too. We really want to listen to what people in the community want to see in this museum.”
- Marie Miller, Co-Founder
Kingston currently has no children's museum of its own; the nearest options are in Albany and Poughkeepsie. The need for an affordable, family-friendly, all-weather space has become more pressing amid extended periods of snow and hazardous wildfire smoke that have kept families indoors and searching for accessible activities within the community.
"My two toddlers and their friends were enthralled from the moment we walked into the My Green Museum Pop Up event. The play kitchen, the scenes, the crafting, almost everything was made from recycled and handmade materials. The children had fun and the parents connected. My Green Museum made a real place for learning, growth, and connection. It showed me how much our community loves and needs spaces like this!"
- Suzanne Campise, happy mom of two toddlers
The pop-up was also part of My Green Museum's broader fundraising campaign to secure a permanent, year-round home in Kingston. Founders say the summer sessions helped gather community feedback that will directly inform the design and programming of the future space. The organization hopes to run another pop-up in the winter. Those interested can go to www.mygreenmuseum.org to find out more or to donate.
The pop-up ran Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 9, and again Friday, August 14 through Sunday, August 16, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET each day at the O+ Exchange Clinic, 334 Wall Street, Kingston, NY.
